Find answers about every feature on Breeders Direct

Account & Login

Head to /register and fill in your name, email, and password. Once registered you'll get access to your dashboard and all features.

👉 Register

Go to /forgot-password, enter your email address, and we'll send you a reset link.

👉 Reset Password

Go to /account to update your name, email, password, profile photo, and notification preferences.

👉 My Account

The dashboard (/dashboard) is your home base. It shows quick stats about your animals, orders, reminders, and links to all your management tools.

👉 Dashboard

Animals

Go to /add-animal and fill in the details: name, species, sex, date of birth, origin, diet, weight, genes/morphs, price, and photos.

Tip: Set the status to For Sale if you want it to appear publicly in listings.

👉 Add Animal

Only animals with the status For Sale are visible to other users. Go to /my-animals, edit the animal, and change its status to For Sale.

👉 My Animals

Go to /my-animals, find the animal, and click Edit. From there you can update all details, add/remove photos, or archive the animal.

👉 My Animals

Go to /bulk-import and upload your spreadsheet — there's no column mapping to do by hand. MorphMarket exports are recognised automatically, and any other CSV has its columns matched by name.

The importer works out species, sex, status, dates, prices and morphs for you, then shows every row for review (with anything it wasn't sure about flagged) before a single animal is created. You can correct any column and re-check before importing.

Photo links in the file are brought across too — they download in the background after the animals are created.

👉 Bulk Import

Visit the animal's profile page and you'll find options to generate a QR code (/animal-qr) or a certificate of ownership (/animal-certificate) for printing or sharing.

Genetics & Breeding

The breeding calculator (/breeding-calculator) lets you select two parent animals (or manually enter their genes) and predicts what genetic outcomes the offspring could have — including morph percentages.

Select both parents from your collection or input genes manually, then click Calculate.

👉 Breeding Calculator

The Pairing Planner (/pairing-planner) helps you organise your breeding season. You can plan pairs, track progress through each stage (Planned → Paired → Gravid → Laid → Hatched), record target morphs, and view your full breeding schedule.

👉 Pairing Planner

Go to /my-clutches and create a clutch announcement. You can include species info, expected hatch dates, genetics, deposit pricing, and notes. Interested buyers can see your clutches and contact you.

👉 My Clutches

Breeding loans (/breeding-loans) let you track animals you've loaned out to another breeder for a breeding project, including terms and return dates.

👉 Breeding Loans

Health & Care

Go to /feeding-reminders. You'll see a list of your animals. Click Set Schedule on any animal and choose the feeding frequency (e.g. every 7 days). You'll get email and in-app reminders when feeding is due.

Animals showing in red are overdue.

👉 Feeding Reminders

Go to /weight-tracker. Select an animal and log its weight (grams), length (mm), and snout-vent length (SVL). You can view a growth chart showing progress over time.

👉 Weight Tracker

Go to /shed-tracker to log shed events for your animals, including date and any notes about the shed quality.

👉 Shed Tracker

Go to /treatment-tracker to log medical treatments, medications, dosages, and vet visits for each animal.

👉 Treatment Tracker

Go to /quarantine to add animals to quarantine. Set a start date, expected end date, reason, and notes. The tracker shows active and recently completed quarantines.

👉 Quarantine

Go to /cites-tracker to manage your CITES and import/export permits. Record the permit type, number, CITES appendix, issuing authority, and expiry date. You'll get reminders before they expire.

👉 CITES Tracker

Shop & Marketplace

Go to /my-shop. There are two tabs:

  1. Shop Setup — Enter your shop name, description, address, and logo. Toggle the shop to Active when ready.
  2. Products — Add your products with name, price, stock, and images.

You'll also need to add your PayFast credentials for payment processing.

👉 My Shop

Check two things:

  1. In /my-shop → Shop Setup, make sure the Active toggle is turned on.
  2. Make sure you have at least one active product listed.

👉 My Shop

Go to /my-shop and click the Products tab. You can add products with a name, description, price, stock quantity, SKU, category, and image. Toggle products active/inactive without deleting them.

👉 My Shop

Go to /my-shop-orders to see all orders placed in your shop. Orders go through: Pending → Paid → Completed. You'll see customer details, items ordered, and payment status.

👉 My Shop Orders

PayFast & Payments

  1. Sign up for a PayFast merchant account at payfast.co.za
  2. Go to /my-shop → Shop Setup
  3. Enter your Merchant ID and Merchant Key from your PayFast account
  4. PayFast will automatically split each payment — your share goes directly to your PayFast account

Important: PayFast must enable split payments on your account before going live. Contact PayFast support to request this.

👉 My Shop | payfast.co.za

Sandbox mode lets you test payments without real money. Use these test credentials:

  • Merchant ID: 10000100
  • Merchant Key: 46f0cd694581a
  • Passphrase: jt7NOE43FZPn

Sandbox mode is enabled by the platform admin. Contact your admin to switch between sandbox and live mode.

A signature mismatch usually means:

  1. Wrong passphrase — The passphrase in your shop settings must exactly match what's set in your PayFast merchant account. If you haven't set a passphrase in PayFast, leave the field empty here too.
  2. Passphrase not cleared — Leaving the passphrase field blank in settings doesn't clear it. Use the backend settings to fully remove it.
  3. Split payments not enabled — PayFast must enable split billing on your account. Contact PayFast support.

When a buyer pays through your shop, the platform takes a small commission (set by the admin). The remainder goes directly to your PayFast account via split payments. You can see the commission rate in your shop order details.

Breeders

The Verified badge () is awarded automatically once your breeder profile meets two criteria:

  1. Minimum reviews — you need to have received a set number of reviews from other users (currently 10 by default, though the platform admin can adjust this).
  2. Minimum average rating — your average star rating must be at or above the threshold (currently 3.5★ by default).

The badge is checked and applied the moment a new review is submitted or updated on your profile — no manual request needed.

Tips to earn it faster:
- Share your breeder profile link with customers after a sale and ask them to leave an honest review.
- Provide great service — a high average rating is just as important as the review count.

You can see your current progress (review count and average rating vs. the required thresholds) by visiting your own breeder profile page while logged in.

Admins can also grant or revoke the badge manually at any time regardless of the criteria.

Go to /add-breeder to create your public breeder profile. You can add a bio, location, specialities, social links, and photos. This is what buyers see when they search for breeders.

👉 Add Breeder Profile
